Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 July 2026 · Soundmark 此声 · OZLab

Soundmark collects nothing. No accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDKs, and no servers of ours anywhere in the loop. The app makes no network requests at all — it is fully functional in airplane mode. Everything below simply explains what happens on your own device.

Data we collect

None. To be specific, and in the categories Apple uses on the App Store product page:

This is consistent with our App Store privacy declaration of Data Not Collected. If that ever changes, this page and the App Store listing will change with it, before the change ships.

Microphone

Soundmark is a recorder, so it asks for microphone access the first time you record — iOS shows the system prompt, and you can revoke it at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. The microphone is used solely to capture the recording you started, which is written straight to a file in the app's own storage on your device. Audio is never streamed anywhere, and the app never listens in the background: capture starts when you tap record and stops when you tap stop.

While recording, the app measures the incoming audio (levels, dominant frequency) so it can draw the live waveform. That analysis happens in memory, on the device, in real time.

Photos and video attachments

You can attach photos or videos to a recording. Soundmark uses the standard iOS photo picker (SwiftUI PhotosPicker / PHPicker), which runs outside the app in a separate process. That means the app never receives access to your photo library — it receives only the specific items you selected, and nothing else. That is also why the app does not ask for photo library permission.

The items you pick are copied into the app's own storage so they stay attached to the recording. Those copies live on your device and are never uploaded.

Where your data lives

Recordings, attachments and the library index are written to the app's private Documents directory on your iPhone: audio in Recordings/, attachments in Media/, and a library.json index holding titles, places, notes and computed metrics. This is sandboxed storage that only Soundmark can read. There is no cloud sync, no iCloud database, no backup service of ours — because we operate no servers.

If you have iCloud Backup or an encrypted local backup enabled, iOS may include the app's files in that backup. That is Apple's system-level backup, under your control and Apple's privacy terms; we have no access to it.

No location

The "place" on a recording is a line of text you type yourself. Soundmark does not use Core Location, does not request location permission, and cannot determine where you are.

Deleting your data

Press and hold a recording in the library and choose Delete: after you confirm, its audio file and any attachments are removed from disk permanently. Deleting the app removes its entire container — every recording, attachment and setting goes with it. There is nothing for us to delete on our side, because we never received anything.

Children

Soundmark is suitable for all ages and collects no personal data from anyone, including children. Because no data is collected, there is no data collection from children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your country) to consent to, disclose or delete. We do not direct advertising at anyone, because there is no advertising at all.

GDPR and UK GDPR

We do not act as a data controller or processor for anything you create in Soundmark, because none of it is transmitted to us. Your recordings and notes stay under your sole control on your own device. There is no processing to establish a legal basis for, no international transfer, no profiling, and no automated decision-making. The rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection are satisfied directly by the app: your files are on your device, you can edit or export them, and deleting them removes them.

If you email us for support, we process that email — see Contacting support below — on the legal basis of our legitimate interest in answering you.

California (CCPA / CPRA) and other US state laws

In the past twelve months we have collected no categories of personal information, sold no personal information, and shared no personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information. Because we collect nothing, there is nothing to opt out of; requests to know, delete or correct can be sent to the address below and we will confirm that we hold no data about you.

Apple's role

Soundmark is distributed through the App Store. Apple collects its own data around downloads, purchases and — if you choose to share them — crash reports and analytics, under Apple's Privacy Policy. Any crash or usage report you send through iOS goes to Apple's standard, opt-in system reporting, which we can view only in aggregate and which contains no personal information. We receive no personal information from Apple.

Contacting support

If you write to us — by email, or through the support page — we receive what you type: your message, the email address you write from or provide, and any app version or device model you include so we can reproduce a problem. We use it only to answer you, we do not add it to any mailing list, and we keep it no longer than the conversation needs. We never ask for your recordings, and we have no way to access them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date. Given the design of the app — no accounts, no network, no servers — we do not expect it to change often.
